Our Agency: Southside Virginia Training Center (SVTC), a residential support facility for individuals with mental retardation/developmental disabilities, located near Petersburg, Virginia, is recruiting for multiple a Speech Pathologist/Therapist II position. Our emphasizes is on person-centeredness and interdisciplinary team work and our aim is to create good lives for people with disabilities by constantly listening to their interest, choices and preferences and balancing their medical and safety needs.
Job Description: The Speech Pathologist would be working with a 16-member clinic with two other SLPs, three bachelors level communication techs, and audiologist, a rehab engineer, two vision specialist and music therapist. Services, provided by caring employees, are client centered, highly individualized and functional, in an environment that nurtures growth and development. This position is responsible for providing communication therapy, diagnostic and screening services independently or in conjunction with other team members. To provide required documentation of services rendered, including written reports. To provide programmatic supervision to Speech Technicians, Assistants, and interns as needed. To train new and current staff in appropriate communication techniques. And to serve on interdisciplinary assessment teams.
Requirements: Competitive applicant will have basic knowledge and ability to implement appropriate assessment and treatment techniques with clients who are physically and cognitively disabled. Knowledge of normal language and speech development, physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms. Ability to measure and document progress in treatment, to provide content supervision to paraprofessionals. Knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication systems and dysphasia and person-centered planning is a plus. A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Speech Pathology, with a Virginia License to practice Speech Psychology is required. Prefer experience with people with severe disabilities and/or mental retardation, particularly those who are nonverbal. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally and computer literacy is preferred.
Salary Range: $9.02 per Hour
