Housekeeping and/or Apparel Worker I/ Tailor

Job Description: Southside Virginia Training Center (SVTC), a residential facility located near Petersburg, VA, is recruiting for a Tailor. SVTC’s primary mission is to provide quality, person-centered health and habilitative services to individuals with intellectual disabilities. In pursuing the person-centered approach, staff from various disciplines work as a team with the individual and his/her legally authorized representative to address the individual needs, goals, choices and preferences.
Applicant will perform a variety of duties such as: receiving bulk, individual or organizational laundry. Repair damaged cloth articles brought to the laundry by sewing, altering and mending various items and garments such as linens and individuals clothes in a safe and efficient manner. Chosen candidate will also have the responsibilities for day-to-day tasks involving standing, walking, reaching, pushing, turning, lifting and grasping. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
Requirements: Applicant must possess knowledge and experience in laundry processes, experience using industrial type sewing machines; and be able to sew various types of garments. Applicant must possess the ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions. High school diploma or GED preferred.
Salary Range: $15,371 minimum, pay band 1
