Educational Scholarship Information
Purpose:
To secure employment commitments for future services from students who are studying in professional disciplines in which the facility has or anticipates acute shortages.
Policy:
Departments can fund Educational Scholarships as a recruitment tool to attract and recruit qualified individuals who are not full-time employees.
Scholarship funds will be used to cover tuition costs, registration and laboratory fees. Maintenance allowances may be applied to other incidental cost in support of the individuals’ education.
A recipient of a scholarship award must provide one year of service to the facility for each year of scholarship awards.
Procedures:
The facility will recruit at schools for interest candidates. Interested candidates must already be accepted into an accredited program and enrolled in the junior or senior year of the program.
Interested candidates will complete a state application and submit to the Human Resources Department.
Accepted applicants will be contacted for an interview and tour.
If the candidate is accepted as a recipient for the scholarship, the recipient will receive a copy of the contract. If the recipient wishes to proceed with the process, the recipient will return the signed and notarized contract along with the school’s program schedule of courses. The recipient will also submit a bill for expenses to the respective department head.
The department head will initiate payment by processing through the FMS system. Payment will be in two installments, one each for the fall and spring semester.
At the end of each semester, the recipient will forward course grades to the department head. The recipient must pass with minimum GPA of 3.0 per semester.
If the recipient defaults on the contract, the recipient will be responsible for repayment to the facility of all scholarship awards received.
