Residential Supports

Residential Living Units

Included in this division are three residential living units consisting of two dormitory style buildings and 14 duplexes suited to the individual needs of the respective individuals. Each living area has living/activity areas, dining areas and bedrooms accommodating one to four individuals with space for personal items.

Unit I

The unit provides supports to individuals with more intensive and continuous medical and nursing needs. The majority of the individuals are severely and profoundly developmentally disabled and multi-handicapped. Emphasis is placed on individualizing supports to meet each individual’s functioning level and physical needs while supporting the individual’s preferences and choices. Supports range from building prerequisite behaviors necessary for the development and acquisition of personal care skills to progressive levels of cognitive development. Health care supports range from health promotion (i.e. alleviating symptoms of disease) to health prevention (i.e. alleviating possible causes of disease.)

Unit II

The unit serves two populations. The first is composed of individuals whose severe challenging behaviors require assignments to a more secure environment. Most are ambulatory, and usually have no serious medical problems or sensory impairments. Male and female individuals make up this population. Supports are emphasized in the reduction of maladaptive behavior and the increase in socially appropriate behaviors.

The second population consists of geriatric individuals who are divided into those with severe, chronic medical problems and those who are still physically active. Support emphasized for this population range from vocational skills development, to social skill development, to developing skills for independent living, and community awareness activities.

Unit III

The homes in Unit III serve a mixed population of intellectually disabled and physically disabled individuals and its mission is to prepare individuals for community living emphasizing individually, self determination and choices for those living there. This is accomplished through the provision of supports addressing vocational, domestic and socialization skills; and activities of daily living, leisure and recreational skills training. Each individual is involved in a person-centered program designed by his/her treatment team with the individual’s involvement. On and off campus recreational and leisure activities occur during the evening and weekend periods.

Community/Social Services

The office of community/social services serves as the liaison between the individual, family and community. This office, utilizing state and federal regulations and policies as it guidelines, is responsible for: 1) providing administrative direction and in-service training to the facility social workers in an effort to insure the delivery of continuous quality social work supports to the individuals of the facility; 2) coordinating transitional process of discharging individuals living in the facility back into the community through collaboration with the Community Service Boards and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services Office of Mental Retardation Services; and 3) overseeing the referral process for requests for services from Community Service Boards and other state facilities for individuals on an outpatient basis or through emergency, respite or judicial certification (time limited) admission.
