Transportation Operator I, Position #:  02140

Southside Virginia Training Center (SVTC), a residential facility located near Petersburg, VA, is recruiting for a Transportation Operator I. SVTC’s primary mission is to provide quality, person-centered health and habilitative services to individuals with intellectual disabilities.  In pursuing the person-centered approach, staff from various disciplines work as a team with the individual and his/her authorized representative to address the individual needs, goals, choices and preferences.

Job Description: To transport individuals/ staff & other passengers, supplies and merchandise and special mail on and off site for three facilities (SVTC, HWDMC, CSH, ) located on the Petersburg Complex by operating motor vehicles to include automobiles, specially equipped vans and/or other vehicles, ensuring the safety of passengers, assisting passengers in loading and unloading, maintaining proper documentation, maintaining vehicle appearance, ensuring the integrity of vendor transactions for purchases and supplies, and selecting the proper vehicle in accordance with the assigned task or trip ticket. Maintains used oils, paints, solvents and non-hazardous storage area.

Requirements:  Knowledge of safe driving practices and traffic laws and regulations.  Demonstrated ability to safely operate a motor vehicle; to understand and follow instructions, policies and procedures; to maintain accurate records; to perform manual labor and takes related to loading and unloading individuals and equipment; to effectively interact and work with others; and to pass federally mandated drug testing.  Basic reading and math skills; effective verbal communication skills.

Salary Range: $15,371 minimum, Pay Band 01
