Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant

Job Description: Southside Virginia Training Center (SVTC), a residential support facility for individuals with mental retardation/developmental disabilities, located near Petersburg, Virginia, is recruiting for a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) position. Services, provided by caring employees, are client centered, highly individualized and functional, in an environment that nurtures growth and development. This position will provide support to swallowing therapist and services developed by the Nutritional Management Team. Responsibilities include assisting the swallowing therapist with assessments, conducting follow-up observations, providing therapy, completing supporting documentation and conducting monitoring activities.

Requirements: Competitive applicant will possess working knowledge of OT theory related to evaluation and treatment, documentation, interfacing with other disciplines, organization, adhering to assigned hours and schedule and clinical reasoning. Applicant should possess the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Experience with feeding, dysphagia or nutritional management preferred. Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program, certification or eligible to be certified with the National Board of Certified Occupational Therapists (NBCOT). Previous experience with the MR/DD population is a plus. New graduates are eligible to apply.

Salary: $40,000 minimum, Pay Band 3
