Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (Therapist I)

Job Description: Southside Virginia Training Center (SVTC), a residential care facility for people with mental retardation/developmental disabilities located near Petersburg, VA, is accepting applications for a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (LPTA). SVTC serves individuals with severe and profound mental retardation. Services, provided by caring employees, are client centered, highly individualized and functional, in an environment that nurtures growth and development. This position will administer physical therapy treatment programs as specified by licensed Physical Therapists. Duties include but are not limited to: assisting in evaluating process, recommending physical therapy treatment modifications, monitoring and maintaining maintenance of adaptive equipment, documenting client’s status (progress, stable, regression, etc.), assisting the Physical Therapist with in-service training, and adhering to Federal, State, and Facility guidelines.

Requirements: Graduation from an accredited program for Physical Therapy and must be licensed or eligible to practice in Virginia as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Previous experience as a licensed Physical Therapy Assistant is preferred but not required. Experience in long term care/MRDD is a plus. Competitive applicants will possess working knowledge of the principles and practices of Physical Therapy. Knowledge of and skill in assisting in program development and interfacing with other disciplines is essential. Demonstrated ability in conducting treatment, utilizing a variety of PT treatment techniques and modalities, and communicating effectively both orally and in writing is required.

Salary: $38,500 minimum, Pay Band 3
