Chief Nutritionist

The Southside Virginia Training Center’s (SVTC) primary mission is to provide quality, client-centered health, habilitation, and educational services for eligible persons with mental retardation. In addition, the Center provides administrative and environment of care services to other facilities located on the Southside Campus, including to Central State Hospital, Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, and the Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation. Job Description: This position has oversight responsibility for planning food and nutrition programs for the agencies listed above. The Chief Nutritionist helps to meet the nutritional needs of the clients, helps to prevent and treat illnesses by promoting healthy eating habits and recommends dietary modifications as required for health and/or medical reasons. The Chief Nutritionist assess patient’s nutritional needs, develop and implement nutrition programs, and evaluate and report the results; confer with doctors and other health care professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs. The Chief Nutritionist ensures that diets are properly implemented and that regulations set forth by various federal agencies are adhered to. Requirements: Bachelors degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or Food Service Management . Registered as a Dietitian with the American Dietetics Association. Demonstrated ability to: administer regulations of federal agencies; organize and analyze data as well as prepare administrative reports; communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications. Preferred: prior supervisor experience; experience working in Mental Retardation and/or Mental Health or a hospital setting, experience working in a large institutional setting and experience operating a dietary computer system are advantages.

Other: Successful applicants will be required to present proof of registration as a Dietitian with the American Dietetics Association. Ex-military applicants must submit a copy of their DDD214 on or before the date of their interview. Offers are contingent upon successful completion of an extensive criminal background, employment references, and drug screening.

Salary: Minimum starting salary $40,000.00
